I am surprised that Ruth Dudley Edwards is presented as representing Irish historians. Like a number of hostile British commentators, she 'reviewed' and attacked Loach's film before she saw it. She asked "Why does Ken Loach loath his country so much?" in the (London) Daily Mail. Her comment that the Irish War of Independence was a "most unedifying period" is the comment of a West-British prude. See:
